The Community Committee organises events to bring us all together and raise funds to be ploughed back into the community. We are also responsible for the monthly Newsletter and the Saturday Shop. Our three main annual events are the Summer Fete in June which takes place on the Playing Field, the Harvest Supper in September, usually in the barn at Overton Farm, by kind permission of Rosie and Dave Paull, and the Christmas Bazaar which takes place in the Church every November. All these events are traditional village get-togethers and great fun for all.
Funds raised are put back into the community in the form of a free Newsletter to every household in the village, a free trip to the pantomime at The Octagon for each child every Christmas, and a Christmas present for every Senior Citizen. If the village needs anything, such as new tables, we will purchase those and we will provide financial help with any village project, such as the recent installation of the West Gallery in the church.

Babcary News & Views
The Newsletter is published every month except August and January and is delivered to every household. It contains committee reports, news of events, a weather report and topical articles.
Babcary Directory of Local Services and Contacts
This document will be of use to existing and especially new residents to find a list of local services and contact details. If you find any that are out of date and need correcting or adding new information that will be of value to other villagers please let the Parish Clerk – Jasmine Tucker, or Philip Sketchley – philsketchley8@gmail.com know so that it can be updated.
Babcary Round Walks
We plan to upload a series of walks around the village using local footpaths and varying from 1 to 6 miles. NB. Many of the paths are very boggy when the ground is wet and they may be overgrown in the summer.
For more specific walk information, visit our Babcary walks page.
Babcary Wildlife Meadows
Just over the ford at the end of North Street is an SSSI, are number of small wildflower rich hay meadows and unimproved grassland, owned and managed by the Somerset Wildlife Trust who saved this now rare habitat in 1999. The orchids are particularly spectacular.
Babcary Community Shop
The Community Shop is open between 9.30am and 11.00am in the Hut every Saturday, except at Easter and Christmas or when there is a community event. It is basically a “bring and buy” shop. 80% of the purchase price goes back to the “bringer” and 20% goes to village funds. There are always eggs and homemade cakes and bakes for sale and lots of home-grown seasonal produce over the summer months. Come early to avoid disappointment! There is often also homemade marmalade and jam, hand crafted cards and a small library of books. The main purpose of the Shop is to bring the community together on a weekly basis for a chat and a free cup of coffee. There is a special Christmas Shop on the last Saturday before Christmas with lots of Christmas goodies and free mulled wine!
